What you need to know about breast augmentation and future health?

By News No Comments

Breast augmentation surgery gives a highly satisfying result, with an instant improvement in your appearance and self-esteem.

There are many reasons why women consider a breast augmentation including:

  • You would prefer your breasts to be a larger cup size.
  • Your breasts have shrunk or sagged after pregnancy or breast feeding.
  • The sizes of your breasts are uneven.

Do breast implants last forever?

Breast augmentation surgery gives a highly satisfying result, with an instant improvement in your appearance and self-esteem. While we use the highest quality breast implants available and meticulous surgical technique, it is still possible for problems such as capsular contracture, infection, malposition, and leaks to occur.

These problems can vary from minor to significant enough to require further surgery and even replacement or removal of your implants. Scientific studies have estimated that 25% of women will require revisional implant surgery within ten years of their primary breast augmentation.

Can I still undergo regular breast screenings?

Women with breast implants can have regular screening mammograms. The radiographer will use special techniques to obtain a clear x-ray regardless of the type of implant and where it is inserted. It is also important to note that breast cancer has never been associated with implants.

Can I breastfeed after breast augmentation?

Implants are placed behind the milk glands or under the chest muscles, which does not affect milk supply. Ensure you discuss breastfeeding with your surgeon prior to any surgery so your surgeon can adjust their technique to help maintain your ability to breastfeed.

Skin Cancer Treatment at A Plastic Surgeon

By News No Comments

Did you know that Australia has the highest incidence of skin cancer in the world? It is estimated that two thirds of people living in Australia will be diagnosed with skin cancer before the age of 70.

Fortunately, skin cancers are readily amendable to treatment in their early stages. At Southern Aesthetic, our patients’ skin surgery can be performed under local anaesthetic in our Kogarah location.  However, all our patients are also offered the option of surgery under sedation or a general anaesthetic to complete their skin cancer treatment in one of our Sydney hospitals.

Patients requiring skin cancer surgery desire 2 things:

  1. A cure
  2. To look good after the procedure is over to move on as if nothing occurred.

Plastic surgeons have both interests at heart – to remove the tumour completely whilst preserving the natural appearance of your face.

Dr Ilias Kotronakis also offers Mohs’ micrographic surgery in conjunction with a professional dermatologist. This is a two-stage skin cancer treatment that offers the highest rate of long-term cure for most SCC or BCC’s with minimal collateral damage to the surrounding tissues. It is the best skin cancer treatment option available in Sydney for patients with tumours affecting aesthetically sensitive parts of their body, for example the nose or eyes.

At Southern Aesthetics, we are dedicated to providing excellent after-care for our patients, including would management and dressings, as well as long-term scare management.

Skin cancer treatment Sydney is of a very high international standard. Plastic surgeons have unique training and techniques to ensure that cancers are completely removed and that the cosmetic result is the most subtle it can be. We will guarantee that every effort is made for you to look as though you have never had surgery.

How many plastic surgeries can be done at once?

By News No Comments

A lot of people after achieving major weight loss desire to have multiple procedures completed.  The most common operations requested by these patients are abdominoplasty, and mastopexy (breast lift). Brachioplasty, face and neck lift and thigh lift surgery are operations that take a significant second place to abdominal and breast procedures.

How many procedures can be completed at once?

The limitation on how many procedures can be done at once comes down to the safety and comfort of our patients. Clinical trials show that it is crucial to keep the operations less than six hours, due to risks of blood clots, reduction in body temperature and pressure sores. Ideally, operations that are combined involve adjacent areas of the body, such as the abdomen and breasts or arms and breasts.

Therefore, this allows for a person to usually have two areas operated on at once, such as a mummy make over (breast surgery and tummy tuck) or arm lift and breast surgery.

Recovery from multiple surgeries

Limitations also come down to recovery, it does not make sense to complete an arm lift and thigh lift at the same time as it will increase recovery time and decrease the level of comfort and mobility. For example, we recommend procedures such as belt lipectomy and thigh lifts to be completed as stand-alone operations as they generate scars in locations of the body that make it uneasy to move if another part of your body is also recovering from surgery.

Patients who have experienced easy recoveries from other operations such as, hernia repair, gastric sleeve, and caesarean section, can usually tolerate a combination of procedures well. Other factors that allow the prediction of good recovery from longer procedures include high pain threshold and positive attitude.

As a leading female plastic surgeon Sydney can offer, Dr. Amira Sanki understands the difficulties women face when seeking professional surgical opinion. Her surgical expertise ensures that women are well cared for before, during and after the surgeries.
