Dr Ilias Kotronakis is a specialist plastic surgeon at Southern Aesthetic. He has special interests in reconstructive surgery, including skin cancer, head and neck cancer, hand surgery and facial surgery.

My role is to help patients understand their treatment options by clearly explaining the potential benefits and risks of each. I offer honest, evidence-based guidance grounded in the same care and consideration I would want for my family and friends. Surgery is not always the most appropriate solution, and part of my responsibility is to help patients decide whether it is suitable for their needs. When surgery is considered appropriate, I use my training and experience to provide patient-focussed care that is thoughtful, safe, and aligned with the highest professional standards.
My commitment continues after surgery. Patients are fully supported during their recovery, so they can come away from their treatment feeling informed, supported, and confident in the care they’ve received.
Training
Dr Ilias Kotronakis is a fully qualified Australian trained Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon. He is a native of Sydney, and received his medical degree with first class Honours from the University of Sydney. He went on to complete his internship, residency and registrarship at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. Dr Kotronakis undertook intensive training in general and Plastic Surgery in Sydney for ten years. After he attained his full qualifications he underwent further training in microsurgery at Charing Cross Hospital in London, in association with the Imperial College of Medicine.
Qualifications
Dr Kotronakis has trained to the highest standards attainable, so you can be sure of his qualifications. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons specialising in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (FRACS Plast). FRACS is the standard qualification required in Australia to perform surgery in private and public hospitals, and is the only plastic surgery qualification recognised by the Australian Medical Council. Dr Kotronakis is also a member of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), and the Australasian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons.
The qualifications that Dr Kotronakis holds mean that he is well trained and has passed rigorous assessment and examination processes. They also mean that he has a commitment to continued education and training. Attending local, national and international conferences and workshops multiple times each year ensures his continued professional development.
Appointments
Dr Kotronakis is appointed as a specialist surgeon at Royal Prince Alfred, Chris O’Brien Lifehouse, and St George Hospitals, all of which are major teaching hospitals. Dr Kotronakis holds senior roles at all of these institutions and is actively involved in research and registrar training in Plastic Surgery at these sites. Dr Kotronakis also operates at St George Private Hospital, and Kareena Private Hospital. This ensures that patient care is delivered in fully accredited hospital settings which offer safety and comfort meeting the highest national standards.
